Inside iOS 5: Wi-Fi Sync, PC Free, Multitasking Gestures for iPad and AirPlay Mirroring

All week long we’re bringing you some of the new features available in Apple’s latest iOS update, iOS 5. Whether you want to view content on the big screen, navigate your iPad easier or sync over Wi-Fi – you’ve got them all with iOS 5.

Multitasking Gestures for iPad includes new shortcuts to help you get around the operating system. Using four or five fingers, you can swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home Screen, and swipe left or right to switch between active apps.

AirPlay Mirroring lets you bring your on-screen experience to the big screen for at-home viewing–or perhaps that big meeting in the board room. Video mirroring allows you to wireless and securely stream whatever is on your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to your HDTV via Apple Tv. Everyone in the room can see exactly what is on your screen’s display, even when you rotate the device between portrait or landscape modes.

Wi-Fi Sync allows you to sync with iTunes without ever connecting your phone to the computer. Using either a Mac or PC over a shared Wi-Fi connection, every time your plug your device into power it automatically syncs and backs up any new content to iTunes. This way, you always have your movies, TV Shows, home videos and photo albums accessible while on the go.

The PC Free option takes Wi-Fi Syncing to a new level. You no longer even need to own a computer to be fully up and running with an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. Activate and setup your device wirelessly right out of the box using an intuitive menu. You can download iOS updates straight to your device and do more with apps like editing your photos or adding new email folders- all without every needing to connect your device to a computer. With iCloud’s backup feature you can back up and restore your device as easily, if not easier, than before.
