The Callet Smartphone Case Means One Less Thing to Squeeze in your Jeans…
All right–so first off, I’m not sure if anyone has thought of this before; but if no one has, I have to give some much needed props to the Callet. The idea of having a case and a wallet (Callet…get it?) all in one is one of those few simple, yet genius ideas that someone sees on tv (and it is on tv) and yells, “Oh, that’s fantastic! Honey, where’s the phone?!” And after spending the last week using the Callet on my iPhone, I’m happy to say that I absolutely loved it–but let’s see wether or not the Callet is right for you…
Design
In a word? Cool. When creating a two-in-one product like this, one of the major issues is keeping the design thin and sleek, while still keeping all of the features that makes it unique–and I think the designers of the Callet found a very good balance in this Gel-Polymer case. Aside from the back, it looks just like any other stylish case. On the top, bottom, left and right of the case, there are openings for all of your buttons, switches, speakers and ports; there’s even an opening for the SIM card slot, which you don’t see in many cases; not that you’ll be taking the SIM card out very often–it’s just a nice feature to have. I do want to point out that this case was made for the AT&T iPhone 4; which means that if you have a Verizon or Sprint iPhone 4 (or the 4S on any carrier), the volume buttons and mute switch will be slightly lowered and not exactly match the cut-outs on the side of the case. But the good news (and bad news–but I’ll get to that later) is that the rubber is very loose and
the switch can still move easily. I found this the case (no pun intended) in many of the cases I’ve used for my iPhone 4 and then used on the 4S–but back to the subject. The back is where the real action of this case is, and it’s also where it gets it’s name. On the back there are two slots for any sort of card, but can also be used to hold cash. Now you might be thinking, “Really? Only two?” Let me just say that if you’re one of those people who has a hundred credit and gift cards jammed into your wallet, then this case isn’t for you; but if you have one or two credit cards, an I.D., and some cash on you at all times, this case can definitely save you some space in your pocket. Now on to the bad part. As I said before, the Callet’s rubber is very loose. This means that taking it in and out of your pocket can be very difficult and the case can easily come off, depending on how tight your pants are (I won’t even go there). It also means that when you do get it out of your pocket, you’ll notice that it tends to be a bit of a lint magnet. A small price to pay for a very cool case.
Protection
As with many rubber cases, the Callet offers great protection. The sides can’t get scratched and if you drop it from a good three feet, your phone will still be unharmed. In fact, the more things you have in the Callet, the better, as the back is much less likely to shatter if you have a few cards in the slots. Now I wouldn’t dare compare this case to one designed for extreme protection (such as the
OtterBox or Ballistic lines), but for casual daily usage, you won’t have to worry about your phone’s safety with the Callet protecting it.
Bottom Line
So, the real question is: Is it worth (and worthy of holding) your hard earned cash? For the low price of just under 20 dollars, absolutely. I can’t tell you enough how cool and useful this case is. It protects your iPhone and does its job in getting rid of the need for carrying a wallet around, and is a great case for a great price–with minimal downside.
