Android App of the Week: Reckless Getaway
Thanks to the recent Android Market app sale, I’m WAY behind on testing out new apps. We’ll be taking a look at some exciting new services soon, magazine apps, and some office productivity.
However, I recently just spent a dime on a little time-waster top-down racer, and that’s been keeping my Galaxy Tab pretty occupied for the last week…
Reckless Getaway is a top down mission based racer not unlike Spy Hunter, which means that for children of the 80′s like myself, it’ll be total crack.
The premise is simple; you’re a getaway driver, and you’ve got to navigate a map full of obstacles to evade capture. Along the way cops try to stop you, and you’ll get power ups which allow you to knock other drivers off the road or give you Dukes of Hazard style jumping abilities.
The missions are served a la Angry Birds (amazing how many casual games now ape that menu format), and you’re given stars based on how well you completed each track. If you’re a complete-ist like I am, this is where the game gets obsessive.
Controls are arcade style and just sloppy enough that running into obstacles is very satisfying (instead of being frustrating like in a racing sim). Thankfully, individual missions are short enough to make this a viable “gaming on the go” app.
In all, it’s a perfectly satisfying way to burn through a couple of minutes (or days).
