CES 2012 Preview: One Laptop Per Child Sees The Light of Day

If you look back at 2009, you may recall a project called OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) which was announced to introduce a low-cost tablet to the world. This tablet was supposed to go into production in 2010, but delays (to get better screens) put things off…until now. 2012 looks to be the year that the tablets are finally completed and hit the market, with OLPC announcing that the XO tablet will be on display at CES and go into production shortly thereafter. The tablet will feature Marvell’s Armada PXA618 SOC processor, 512MB of RAM, an 8″ PixelQi display and will run Android or OLPC’s Sugar operating system. Priced at $100, this is intended to be an affordable option for developing countries around the world.
