As excited as we were to hear that a new and improved Apple TV is heading our way next week, it did beg the obvious question of what was to become of the existing second-gen units that populate millions of living rooms. Apple TV owners: Have no fear. Apple has just quietly rolled out a new update (version 5.0) that gives existing 2nd-gen Apple TV owners most of the same features that buyers of the just-announced unit will be treated to next week. And while 1080P output will only be available on the newer units, existing owners will still get the completely redesigned UI, Movies in the Cloud, and more. To get the new software, boot up your Apple TV and head to “Settings,” and then click on “Update Software.”
