Desk Pets Adds to its Robotic Lineup with CarBot
We have no problem admitting that we’ve always been fond of Desk Pets. Known for its ultra cool (and very affordable) lineup of micro-robotic toys, they never cease to amaze us with what they’re able to do with small-scale electronics. Their latest, CarBot, builds on the success they’ve had with such toys as TankBot and TrekBot–but this time applies their magic touch to a tiny car with a big personality. Like all Desk Pets toys, CarBot has multiple modes (Battle Mode, Race/Drift Mode, Maze Mode and Personality Mode), and allows for full control using your iOS or Android device with the included dongle. Thanks to cute sound effects and clever LED lighting, CarBot is part pet, part RC toy–and with a run time of 25 minutes from a 40 minute charge, you’ll run out of steam long before your CarBot will. CarBot retails for $29.99, and you can click past the jump for retail info, as well as a video link.

Each CarBot can be set to A, B, or C frequency for battles between CarBots. In battle mode players can use the fire button to disable the opponent’s CarBot. The Drift ‘n’ Race mode allows for full speed racing and drifting. In maze mode CarBots can successfully navigate mazes and avoid obstacles. In personality mode makes the CarBot go crazy drifting, speeding, and spinning with lights and sounds. CarBots can also be set to mute for noiseless play.
Each CarBot comes with an iDesk Pets universal remote dongle that easily plugs into the headphone jack of your mobile device. Users can fully control the CarBot with their iOS or Android device by downloading the Desk Pet’s free mobile device application that turns the device into an infrared remote controller.
Each CarBot smartphone toy is chargeable via USB; 40 minutes of charge equals 25 minutes of play.
