Over-the-ear headphones have always been superior to in-ear monitors for true audiophiles, for their dynamic range thanks to larger drivers and their ability to insulate the listener from outside sound interference. The problem was, they just didn’t look very cool.
But OTE headphones have enjoyed a major comeback over the past few years; and now Signeo USA is poised to make a major sound and fashion statement with its SOUL brand of On-Ear models, thanks to a celebrity endorsement from Grammy award winning recording artist Chris Bridges–who you may know better as Ludacris.
SOUL by Ludacris will come in five models (SL49, SL99, SL 100, SL150 and SL300) and feature enhanced noise cancellation technology, advanced drivers which deliver deep bass, natural midrange and clear highs. According to Signeo USA Executive Director Len Davi, the SOUL by Ludacris line is meant to bring the audiophile experience to music lovers on the go: “Music is a passionate expression and when you hear a great performance it’s a very powerful thing. The SOUL name and concept is founded on the idea that you should be able to experience that feeling with each listen.”
Back when I was a boy, being a DJ meant lugging around crates full of vinyl records, towering speakers that weighed more than a man, rack loads of amplifiers and so on. We carried that equipment on our backs. In the snow. And yes, it was uphill both ways.
These days, things are markedly simpler. Thanks to Hercules, now all you need are a pair of lightweight amplified speakers, your laptop and the DJ 4Set.
This little DJ console puts all the essential MIDI controller features a mobile DJ needs at your fingertips and better still, it’s easy enough to use, that even beginners will be spinning pro mixes in no time. +Continue Reading
It’s an ambitious goal, but Verizon says it will upgrade its network to 4G LTE nationwide within 3 years. Verizon officials kicked-off CES with a presentation detailing plans to bring high-speed wireless access to major urban centers and rural areas through partnerships with local service providers. Download speeds will run between 5 and 12Mb while uploading should run between 2 and 5Mb.
Verizon hopes that the availability of 4G will help to foster smarter hospitals and more connected homes and that being the first network to offer nationwide 4G will lead to a considerable jump in market share.
Phone, email, text, fax, web browsing, calendar and more!
Still clinging to your old legacy phone system in the office as you wait for a true 21st century communications solution? Still using a PBX-based system? Shame on you! But don’t be too hard on yourself…you’re not alone.
Speakal hopes to have developed a product that will convince business owners, IT staff and office managers everywhere to finally upgrade their antiquated phone systems. Behold the BTS8; an office phone that combines the functions of a personal computer with an answering service, text message reader, media player, address book, calendar and more. This Windows 7 based device allows office workers to manage and record phone calls, answer emails, send and receive SMS texts, listen to music, watch video, schedule appointments and manage faxes. (Do people still send faxes??)
You can also browse the web and reach all of your critical data remotely from the golf course…er home…when you can’t be in the office. To give the device even greater flexibility, the BTS8 can easily be connected to a larger external monitor for enhanced visibility.
If all that isn’t enough to convince your boss to invest in the BTS8 for your office, you might want to tell him or her that it uses 90% less electricity than a traditional PC as well.

There’s an old business adage that advises to do one thing…and do it better than anyone else; that wasn’t quite enough for the engineers at Scosche who happen to do many things well, as is evident by their full 2011 line of products at the Consumer Electronics Show–promising to power, connect and protect your toys better than anyone else.
The 2011 Scosche accessory line-up features a huge variety of products that compliment just about any type of gizmo you might be carrying in your pocket, including the new REALM line of high performance over-ear headphones and in-ear monitors, which were inspired by the company’s roots in the car audio business. It’s been a busy couple of days of announcements, product unveilings and news-worthy events here in Las Vegas, but the prize for most announcements must go to Skype. Yesterday, they announced their acquisition of Qik; no terms have been revealed, but the deal is expected to close this month. According to Skype, the two companies will “focus on providing a richer, more integrated experience that will allow people globally to share experiences in real-time video across different platforms.”
In other Skype news comes Skype Group Calling for Business. Skype has updated its software for enterprises with Group Video Calling. Available immediately on the business version of Skype for Windows PC’s, this new version gives companies the ability to video-conference with three or more people, (up to a max of 10) allowing companies to interact in real-time via video, conference calling, IM, SMS or even sharing screens and files. Finally, it looks like a demo version of Skype for Android with video-calling was spotted on an LTE version of a new Motorola device. This confirms the rumors that an Android version of the currently “iOS only” feature will be available soon.
Four new cameras have been added to Canon’s PowerShot lineup, which include the company’s first point-and-shoot ringing in under the $100 mark. Lets begin with the 16 megapixel A3300 IS, featuring 720p HD video, 5x optical zoom, a 3-inch LCD, a number of creative filters and a discrete mode that mutes all sounds for–you guessed it–discrete picture taking; the A3300 IS will cost you $179. Next on the list is the $139 A2200 which keeps virtually the same specs, but bumps you down to 14 megapixels, 4x optical zoom and a 2.7 inch screen. For $109 you’ll grab yourself the PowerShot A1200, which drops the sensor down to 12.1 megapixels and loses the discrete mode; this one also includes a small optical viewfinder (remember those). Finally the A800 is a 10 megapixel camera with VGA video and a 2.5 inch LCD for $89. All cams are due out in late February.
Details are a little scarce, but Samsung is taking full advantage of Verizon’s blossoming LTE network with a trio of new devices.
First up is an updated Galaxy Tab with a 4G radio. Largely the same device as the current tab, but with an updated 1.2GHz Hummingbird processor and better front and rear cameras.
Next is a MONSTER phone sporting a 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.3MP front and 8MP rear cameras, and Android 2.2 (which is still absent on Samsung’s current Galaxy S phones coughcough).
Lastly, for you road warriors, Samsung is delivering a 4G mobile hotspot to help you take care of your mobile internet needs, allowing you to connect up to 5 devices over wi-fi to either a 3G or 4G data connection.
Love the idea of owning Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, but not so crazy about committing to 2 years of monthly payments? Well, you’re in luck…Samsung has just announced that it’s beautiful 7″ Tab will go on sale in WiFi-only form at some point during the first quarter of this year. Though a price has yet to be announced, you can count on the price being higher than the subsidized models currently being offered by carriers. Samsung Mobile also announced that CBS has agreed to come on board and offer their content on Samsung’s popular Media Hub; CBS joins existing partners that include NBC Universal, MTV, Paramount and Warner Bros.
