It’s amazing the things your brain gets thinking about. Recently, in a conversation with Mitchell, it was the fact that my son will turn 16 in 2026, my daughter in 2028 – so the natural question on my mind is: What cell phone technology could I possibly be using then? Not thinking about putting money away for education, or watching our children grow-up – those would be the normal questions; instead, what will technology be like.
That sparked a more entertaining adventure down the path of the past that I’ll summarize very easily and quickly right here. Five years ago (+ one month if you want to be exact), we were introduced to our first iPhone. The original iPhone with no AppStore, no Android, no app developers, and absolutely no competition anywhere in sight. If you look back five years ago, it was either the iPhone or phones like this Sony Ericcsson w610i. +Continue Reading

A spray-on antenna–yup, we didn’t mistype. New technology in development has already shown a 14 mile transmission over VHF, and underwater tests boast a nautical mile of transmission. How does the tech work? No clear indication other than tiny nano particles that blend together to search for signal and mimic the functions of a typical antenna or cell phone tower. Check out Chamtech’s CEO as he explains in greater detail…
The Phoenix Sound have become the first NBA franchise to integrate wireless tablet tech into their business and on-court operations. Using the Galaxy Tab 10.1 on Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE Network, the Suns are incorporating the tab into in-game promotional programs, ticket holder presentations, partner activations and other interactive projects. Sure, we remember the Super Bowl ads that make us laugh; but how often do you actually remember the product the commercial was for? While viewers will almost always judge these multi-million dollar moments on their comedy or sentimental value alone, for the companies spending the money to advertise their products, it’s much more important that you can actually associate a product with those visceral reactions–and in this respect, Samsung mobile should be very happy. Sure, the 90 second spot had incredible production value, and was well-helmed by film director Bobby Farrelly; and yes, the commercial continued the tradition of cleverly-written spots that gently jab at Mac lovers waiting in line for their iPhones, while Samsung device owners are going on with their lives with equally powerful and cool devices. But unlike most Super Bowl ads, the star of this spot was the product itself–the phone/tablet hybrid, Galaxy Note. You can check out the commercial in is entirety below…
Though it’s been been rumored for quite some time, Facebook has officially submitted its IPO (initial public offering) with the SEC, beginning the journey to becoming a publicly traded company. Bearing the symbol “FB,” there’s no official word on which exchange the social networking giant will be traded on, but Facebook expects the move to bring in an estimated $5 Billion. You know your company is successful when your brand name becomes synonymous with the product–and Zippo is a perfect example. For years, Zippo’s line of windproof lighters have been one of the coolest gadgets to keep in your pocket–and as a non-smoker I can tell you that Zippos have multiple uses (anyone who goes camping will vouch for this) and always seem to come in handy. Did I also mention that they’re incredibly cool? While Zippo has been offering the ability to customize their lighters for quite some time, it’s always involved placing a bulk order; so while customization was a great option for businesses, those who wanted a customized single lighter were out of luck. Not any more. Zippo has just launched a customization tool that allows individuals to choose from Zippo’s line of images–or more importantly, one of their own–to create their own, personalized lighter. The best part? They start at only $30 dollars. You can CLICK HERE to see the customization tool in action, and click past the jump for the full PR…

Driving around SoCal, I’ve been noticing more signage and attention being brought to the issue of using cellphones while driving.
Distracting, dangerous, and something most of us tech savvy folks have been guilty of at one time or another. AT&T has been working at the local level to increase education, and has started touring a driving simulator, built around an actual car, to show young and old how dangerous even a momentary distraction can be while operating a vehicle.

This is one of the phones I was most excited to check out at CES.
I had the pleasure of sitting in on a blogger breakfast setup by Nokia, when lo and behold, one of them whipped out a Lumia 900 for us to play with.
Apologies up front for the poor photos, as it was VERY dark in the restaurant… +Continue Reading
