As reported last week, VLC version 2.0 is now officially out and ready for your media consuming pleasure. This major release brings a whole UI revamp on the Mac (a little less major on the PC version), in addition to faster decoding and the ability to open a lot more file formats–including some well known HD formats used by professional producers. Blu-ray playback is also a new feature in version 2.0, dubbed “experimental” as they work out the kinks. Check it out.

Anyone looking to get their pro wrestling fix on-the-go will be happy to know that THQ has just announced WWE Wrestlefest is available NOW in the iOS App Store. Based on the 80s arcade game, it offers not only classic WWE fighters, but current Superstars, DLC, multiplayer and a Road to Wrestlemania progression mode as well. The game is available for $2.99 for the iPhone version and $3.99 for iPad, with XBLA, PSN and other versions due for release later this year. For more info, check the full PR after the jump…

It’s here. BlackBerry has officially pushed out OS 2.0 to PlayBook users, bringing missing launch features including Mail, Contacts and Calendar to the big screen (okay, the 7″ screen) for consumption. As of today, PlayBook users can enjoy enterprise-level synchronization with Exchange and other e-mail services as well as integration with Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. We’ll go hands-on and bring you our full review in the coming days.

Just about everything these days is going high tech, including searching for a babysitter. A new iOS app from French Canadian website SOSGarde lets you plug in your postal code and search for the babysitters that are closest to you. The app allows potential babysitters to create a profile, making it easier for those with an iDevice to find someone to watch those pesky kids on date night.
BlackBerry Playbook OS 2.0 will be arriving on February 21st, bringing some much anticipated features such as email, contacts and calendar functionality. Native Android app support will also be included, along with a slew of other device bug fixes and enhancements. With these welcome additions, this may be the moment to head on out and pick up your PlayBook; well let you know what we think of the update after it goes live.

As they already announced for the 3DS, Nintendo has now brought Hulu Plus to the Wii. Available today, Wii owners can stream any of the content on hulu Plus straight to their console. As a bonus, anyone who doesn’t already have a Hulu PLus account can get a 2 week free trial by signing up through their Wii.

Apple has announced their upcoming operating system release entitled Mountain Lion. Officially dropping the “Mac” title from the OS X name (formerly Mac OS X), Mountain Lion will be available this summer as the next iteration of their famed OS. The developer preview is already available to registered developers and brings a wealth of new features–many taken direction from Apple’s mobile iOS operating system. From iCloud to Twitter, and even AirPlay mirroring of your entire desktop – Mountain Lion will bring the iOS and OS X operating systems closer than ever. VLC version 2 is arriving this year for virtually every desktop platform (not mobile yet, sorry). The new update brings a completely overhauled interface to the media player, plus true 64-bit operation on both Windows and Mac. It supports multiple videos including those within RAR archives, enhanced video output modes, and Blu-ray media support. Plans are in the world to port VLC 2.0 over to Android, iOS, OS/2 and more. Samsung has announced the GALAXY Tab 2, a 7-inch Android 4.0 tablet. This new light and portable GALAXY Tab will be available in both 3G and WiFi variations and will be released come March in the UK; no launch dates have been announced for North America yet, but we’re hoping they’ll follow soon. The GALAXY 2 Tab is the first Samsung tablet to sport Android 4.0, and features a 1GHz dual core processor, enhanced HSPA+ connectivity, and of course, a slew of new features ready to take advantage of Ice Cream Sandwich. AT&T has released its latest TV companion for the iPad. The AT&T U-verse for iPad app can remotely control their DVR’s while pulling down extra program info about what’s playing. While you are NOT home, you can still view program information, program the DVR, or even play Video on Demand (VOD) selections – but no streaming in sight at the moment.
