Fans of Bethesda’s brilliant Elder Scrolls franchise (which includes Game of the Year, Skyrim) have been waiting for this announcement for some time. Bethesda has announced that The Elder Scrolls Online, developed by ZeniMax Online Studios, will be the first MMO based on the Elder Scrolls universe. Developed for both PC and Mac, this is huge news for gamers that have always wanted to experience The Elder Scrolls world online with other players. Though no official timetable has been announced (yet), I’m sure we’ll hear a bit more at E3 this June. Click past the jump for Bethesda’s official press release.

For those of you who have been settling for the lower-res iPhone version of Spotify on your iPad, settle no more: Spotify has officially landed on the iPad.
With updates like enhanced graphics for the Retina display, a revamped UI and AirPlay integration (to name a few), Spotify for iPad should come as a nice reward for those that have been patiently waiting for the streaming service to hit the Apple tab. Make sure to check out the the video below to see Spotify for iPad in action–and when you download it from the AppStore, make sure you look for it under “iPhone” apps; instead of listing it in both categories (like all apps designed for iPhone and iPad), it only seems to be listed with iPhone apps. Spotify is a free download, but will require a premium subscription for mobile functionality after your trial is over.

Do check it out and let us know what you think.
After only 15 months of existence, the Mac App Store has surpassed the 10,000 app mark. No, its not the 500,000+ apps on the iOS app store; but it is a pretty big deal for those distributing their desktop software on the new platform, and get’s Apple that much closer to a disc-free ecosystem. The Mac App store was launched on January 5th of last year along with the release of OS X 10.6.6, and saw over 1 million downloads in its first 24 hours.
Sometimes (ok, most of the time) it’s the little things in life that give us the most joy; and if you were a button-mashing arcade dweller back in the 90s, no doubt that you lost plenty of quarters (and hours) to WWF WrestleFest. THQ did an excellent job of taking that arcade classic to the much smaller screen when they released WWE WrestleFest for iOS devices–and that experienced just became even more affordable with a price drop: $.99 for the iPhone , and $1.99 for the iPad version. Here’s the official announcement, as well as product links:
Already defeating opponents in the iOS ring, THQ’s faithfully recreated, ever-popularWWE WrestleFest will be unleashing another powerful move — the ‘Price Drop.’ For a limited time, starting today at 9:00 a.m. EDT, WWE WrestleFest will be available for $0.99 on iPhone and $1.99 on iPad.
Dropbox is trying to make life easier with some new platform-wide features. The cloud sharing service has added new enhancements that make generating public links for any file or folder as simple as a right click; a new browser based viewer makes accessing things like videos and photos more integrated, and full-size viewing is now standard fair as well. Do check it out (if you haven’t already).
In our continued attempt to keep track of all our passwords, pin numbers, and otherwise important information, wouldn’t it be nice if there was just one place to store it all where it’s accessible from anywhere? Norton–yes the Antivirus folks–has introduced Norton Identity Safe; a new way to manage your passwords. This free service has accompanying mobile apps for virtually all platforms and allows you to store all of your information behind one lock and key. Do check it out at Norton.com.
If you’ve been waiting to hear about the official dates (which we now know are June 11-15) and then purchase tickets to Apples World Wide Developers Conference this year, you may be out of luck–tickets went on sale this morning and sold out in under 2 hours (tickets sold out in under 12 hours last year). Always a popular event within the tech community, WWDC has become increasingly more mainstream every year as Apple’s popularity has grown–perhaps this is why Apple required that this year, only developers registered in one of Apple’s developer programs were allowed to purchase passes. The fact that the event sells out so quickly every year is impressive on its own–but when you factor in the price per ticket ($1599), you really get a stronger sense of just how much interest the event draws. While some may be hoping for new product announcements, the one thing we do know is that this year’s event will be focused on OSX Mountain Lion.
By the time you read this post, skype should finally be available on a PlayStation Vita near you. Supporting both video and voice chat over 3G as well as WiFi, the skype app works surprisingly well. Controls are familiar and intuitive, meaning those that have used Skype before will have no problem getting around, and first-timers will quickly get acclimated. Users should be pleasantly surprised by both picture quality and frame rates, and thanks to the light weight and form-factor of the Vita, I found this version of skype to be even better than what iOS devices offer–high praise indeed. The skype app for the PS Vita is a free download that can be found on the PlayStation Store on your handheld in the “app” category; give it a try and let us know what you think.
Skype has now shed the “Beta” title for its Windows Phone edition, adding contact searching and landline calling to its VOIP capabilities. This update comes two months after the public beta was released in February, and includes a bunch of improvements to keep your calls connected. The full version does not bring support for receiving calls in the background just yet, so expect to be initiating all of your mobile conversations.
