Sony Ericsson’s Newest Mini Mites

Sony Ericsson isn’t quite done with their mobile reveals, and today we present you with two new compact Xperia smartphones. The new Xperia Mini will run Android 2.3 featuring a 3-inch multitouch, scratch-resistant display, Sony’s Bravia Engine with Reality Display. Inside is a 1GHz processor, access to the Android Market, a 30% battery-life increase and the distinction of being the world’s smallest smartphone capable for recording 720p HD video–the Mini Pro adds a slide-out keyboard (which we love) and front facing camera. The Xperia Mini line is one of the coolest, if not cutest out there…and we’ll have more as soon as we get our hands on one later in the year. Check after the jump for more info…

The Casio TRYX: The First Hybrid Camera to Finally Get it Right

Remember when we first told you about the TRYX during CES? Back in January, the folks at Casio were kind enough to show us an early prototype-not a fully functional prototype, but more than enough to whet our appetites and show us the potential this hybrid camera had. The trouble with most hybrid cameras (cameras that shoot both stills and video) is that they usually perform one task much better than the other, making them more suited to a specific task, while the second task gets the “well yeah…it can do that too if you really need it to” treatment. So when Casio sent us the final production version of the TRYX, the natural question became: “Was this truly a camera that would satisfy as both a still shooter and HD camcorder, or just another Jack of all trades, and master of none?” Read on, and discover why the Casio TRYX may finally be the only camera you need to carry…

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G: Our Review

OK… confession time:  While it’s true that my inner geek is never far from the surface, I have to admit that PDA’s, Smart Phones and the like have never really been my particular cup of tea (I’ve always leaned more toward the pure audio, video, imagery and computing side of things). When combined with my day-to-day communication needs, I’ve managed quite well over the years with a series of what are, by today’s standards, only moderately multi-media capable phones.  Up until now that is.  Recently, I was given the chance to spend an extended period of time testing the new Samsung Galaxy S 4G (for T-Mobile), and within hours of powering it up realized that I’d never be able to go back to my simple phone again. +Continue Reading

Gadget Lovers Looking For a Bag–Your Search Ends Here

I’ll admit it: I’m a sucker for a good bag. Whether it’s a nice piece of luggage or a carrier for your laptop and tech gear, a good bag can last you years–usually much longer than whatever you’re carrying inside of it. Over the past few months, my hunt for the perfect Laptop/Gadget bag has taken a few casualties–most notably, my wife’s patience. I’ve found great cases for my laptop, but they really weren’t good for holding much else; then I’d find the perfect gear bag, but it wouldn’t offer suitable protection for my laptop. Too big, too small, too much room, not enough–I’d basically turned into Goldilocks, desperately searching for that one bag that was “just right.” Just when I had lost all hope of ever finding it, the folks at Booq sent me the Mamba Catch…and I’ve been smiling ever since.

A Simple Idea…

Like so many of you, I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures and making videos – it’s creative and fun, and I love the gear.   However, if you’re like me, you’ve also likely discovered the single biggest draw back of becoming the family / friends / business go-to camera person… you’re never in the picture!  And while there have been some attempts to address the issue, none of them have truly succeeded.  Well, earlier this year ION Audio introduced their TwinVideo 2-Way Video Camera which offers up the best solution yet.  So, join us as we take a look at this novel take on the simple video camera. +Continue Reading

Geotag Your Photos INDOORS with the Casio Exilim EX-H20G

A new Exilim, and I’m happy to get my hands on it.
Truthfully I was surprised to see the EX-H20G in my hands this quickly, as the camera was only announced a couple months ago, but here it is in shiny grey plastic and sporting one of the most interesting features I’ve ever seen in a point and shoot camera.

Hybrid GPS.

Essentially a combination of traditional satellite based GPS, and a secret cocktail of internal sensors that can track your movement. The end result, a P&S camera that can lock your location nearly instantly, and even get a geo-tagging fix indoors.

So let’s see how it holds up! +Continue Reading

Shooting a Little HD with the Samsung H200 Memory Camera

I have a confession to make.

I’ve never used a camcorder. Ever.

I’m really into optics and I’m a hobbyist photog, but I never  bothered with video until it started showing up in still cameras like my old Powershot S2 IS and now my Canon 7D.

When Samsung offered to send us one of their HD Memory Cameras, I figured it was time to see how the other side lived… +Continue Reading

Looking For Great Value in a Point-and-Shoot? Look No Further Than the Casio EX-Z2000

I can’t tell you how many reviews I’ve read of point-and-shoots that compare these pocket-friendly cameras to their DSLR counterparts; it seems that even though consumers and reviewers know intellectually that these are 2 different types of cameras, people can’t help but mention how a point-and-shoot compares less than favorably to larger, more powerful cameras. Well guess what? As we tend to do at YourTechReport, I’m about to make things incredibly clear: If you want the best digital images possible at the highest resolutions, you shouldn’t be looking at anything other than a digital SLR–case closed. However, life is full of compromises–and anyone that’s tried to fit a Canon 7D or Nikon D300 in their shirt pocket can tell you that full size cameras are not practical in all situations; and so, the point-and-shoot was born. Combining a smaller size with good image quality at a reasonable price, point-and-shoots have become the go-to cameras for most consumers–and in the world of point-and-shoots, there may be no better value than the Casio EX-Z2000.

I’ve been seriously impressed with Olympus’ products of late. From the E-PL1 to their waterproof Stylus, Oly has been consistently chipping away at my Canon fanboy-ism of late.

Considering how much I’ve enjoyed their products, I thought it was time to take a look at one of their DSLRs.

Their E-620 body with two lenses is currently going for a street price around $650. Let’s see if it’s worth the green. +Continue Reading

Casio Exilim EX-H15 Bringing 10x Zoom to the sub $300 Camera Game

Starting with the EX-F1, which focused on hi-speed video recording, then on EX-FH25 which offered up some pretty hardy competition to Nikon and Canon’s bridge super-zoom cameras, Casio has developed their Exilim brand into a pretty formidable group of cameras with some interesting features.

Now they’re going after the mid range zoom with the EX-H15, which boast a 10X optical zoom, super long battery life, and built in Youtube integration, all at an affordable price.

Let’s see how this camera stacks up against the competition. +Continue Reading

So it’s not every day I get a request from my editor to throw a brand new camera into my swimming pool, so I kinda jumped at the chance to play with the new Olympus Stylus TOUGH 8010.

Olympus claims it’s an almost military spec drop-proof, water-proof, crush-proof consumer camera.

Did it survive my review?
