Review: The HTC One X on AT&T

It takes a lot to impress me with new hardware. Each new phone is an incremental gain on its competitors, and on the phone which came before it. I believe we are now entering the age of “The Infrastructure” where services, network, support, software, and ecosystem are more important than any one hardware revision.

However, when a company executes a well organized change of direction, and delivers a unique experience while laying the groundwork for future releases, that one new phone will make me stand and take notice.

I really didn’t think HTC was capable of making a phone like the One X. +Continue Reading

Review: Swann’s iFly Micro Lightning RC Helicopter

I suck at RC.

I had a little race car when I was a kid. Just trying to get it to run around an oval track was a frustrating experience–especially when friends of mine were going to track events on a regular basis.

Lately I’ve been getting my hands on some incredible RC flying toys. From $20-ish mall kiosk jobs, to the Force RC fighting copters, to the gorgeous AR Drone.

Swann dropped the iFly Micro Lighting in my hands, and after some of these premier devices I was a touch skeptical. Thankfully, the iFML has a few tricks up its rotors… +Continue Reading

Android App of the Week: Dark Meadow: The Pact

It takes a lot to get me engrossed in a tablet game.

Sure, I’ll burn a lot of time on puzzle games; but there’s a big difference between a good time waster and an immersive experience.

There haven’t been a lot of games which I feel have done first person gaming justice. We have some REALLY solid third person shooters, but no games where you got to see out of your character’s eyes.

That is, until now… +Continue Reading

Android App of the Week: Can I Stream It?

I love it when a great little web service gets its own standalone app. Nothing wrong with going to a browser, but on our mobile devices, an app is usually faster.

The app also helpfully links you to other information like IMDB, and if you sign up for an account, you can save your searches for notification once movies become available to stream. Can I Stream It? is a great little web service which we use a lot while producing Movies You May Have Missed.

It’s a movie searching service which will quickly show you if you  can stream or digitally rent/buy a film, and keeps track of services like Youtube, Amazon, and Netflix.

If you’re really into film like we are, this is a great service which helps feed our instant gratification, movie watching needs.

Android App of The Week – Flixster

This app has been around for a little while, but recent refreshes and support for new services prompted me to give it a second look.

I’ve been using Flixster since it first started on Facebook as a way to rate movies you liked. As a social plugin to a social network, I didn’t think it was particularly useful. At its core, one might say that the exact same functionality could be found in services like Netflix or Amazon, and without the benefit of actually being able to rent or buy films.

So why revisit it now? +Continue Reading

Second Impressions: The Nokia Lumia 900 with AT&T LTE

Another product launch, another AT&T party!

This time the “LTE Limo” was driving around Hollywood to celebrate the release of the Nokia Lumia 900.

Now this wasn’t my first experience with a 900, as I got a little face time with one at CES. The Lumia was definitely the high point of this year’s Electronics Show for me, but since then I’ve been able to play with a few more premier phones.

Can a phone make a second impression as lasting as its first? +Continue Reading

The LS: Everything you Expect from a Ballistic Case…and Less

When it comes to rugged iPhone cases, no one seems to do it better than Ballistic. Way back in 2010, we told you about the Ballistic HC–a case that could stand up to just about anything you threw at it. A couple of months later, we told you about the Ballistic SG; a slightly less bulky case that offered excellent protection, with a slimmer profile. Well here we are in 2012, and it’s time you got to know a bit about the third member of the Ballistic iPhone case family: The Ballistic LS. While the HC and SG are still incredibly popular cases, Ballistic knows that many customers are looking for something even slimmer and a bit more fashionable, without having to sacrifice protection–and the LS hits the mark beautifully.

Long Term Review: Nokia Lumia 710

About halfway through my long term evaluation of the Galaxy Nexus, my pals at Nokia hooked me up with one of their new Windows Phone Handsets. At first I was a little disappointed. It wasn’t the new (new at the time) hotness Lumia 800, but the little brother Lumia 710.

I’m used to reviewing premier handsets, and this was like 90 Lumia points less than one I wanted to get my hands on.

However, after using it for a couple of days, I asked Nokia if I could keep it longer term.

Let’s take a look at the new face of “entry level.” +Continue Reading

Android App of The Week: They Need to Be Fed

I like puzzle games.

I like crazy twists on puzzle games.

I like games that look like they’re for kids, but have a morbid edge to them.

Feed me, Seymour!
